Jacob Buckenmeyer read and reviewed The Conversationalist in this week’s Anacortes American . . . Here is a copy of the review for you to read. I was floored by his take on this suspense story.
Author’s novella is based in Anacortes

“Anacortes author Justin Bog, who published his debut collection of short fiction, “Sandcastle and Other Stories,” in January, has released an electronic version of his latest novella through Green Darner Press. “The Conversationalist” is about 75 book pages long, and it follows the dating trouble of Patrick, its protagonist.
The text is filled with references to familiar locations, such as this passage from the first chapter: “Then Wendy and I walked over to Anthony’s, a wish-you-could-eat-the-view seafood restaurant overlooking the very same Anacortes marina docks. There’s another marina on the other side of Fidalgo Island…”
The plot weaves its way around Fidalgo Island’s features and the arts scene in Anacortes: “Wendy was someone new to the San Juan Island area who had been living here since last fall trying to start a fine arts gallery in Anacortes…,” and “On Fidalgo Island, rumors abound. I’ve never let this bother me before.”
Bog’s narrative even borrows some familiar scenes from around town: “…the local Sunday protest movement… who gather on the four opposing corners of Commercial Avenue right outside the Anacortes Safeway…”
Other local features include Adrift restaurant, Mount Erie, the Cap Sante viewpoint, as well as Mount Vernon and Burlington.
This suspenseful story deals with lies and betrayals that threaten lives and friendships, and they don’t leave anyone innocent in the end.
“The Conversationalist” is available in Kindle edition for $2.99 through amazon.com.”
(and Kobo too!)
Enjoy your own dialogue with Patrick . . .
ever,
Justin

That’s great news Justin!
It’s a very local paper and hardly reaches beyond our tiny island, and still, I was over the moon . . . so great to read about the book and hear what locals have to say about the tale. Thank you very much, M.E. 🙂
The scenery felt very authentic. I’m glad he used Anacortes as a backdrop.
I love writing about real places I’ve lived in or visited. Much harder for me to write fantasy or erotica because of that same worry about authenticity 😉
